DPS Report

I’ve just finished putting my DPS report together. As part of my year out it is a requirement to write a report about our placement experiences and what we have been up to.

I decided to make a 5 x 7 book. I wanted it to be based on photography as well as words, as the saying goes ‘A picture is worth a thousand words!’ I got the images printed professionally on a matte finish. I then bound the book with silver rivets.

Two copies ready for hand in! : )

Ölü Deniz

I have just come back from Ölü Deniz which is on the south west coast of Turkey. Two excursions I went on were to the towns of Dalyan and Fethiye. The Dalyan tour included traditional carpet weaving, mud baths, rock tombs, loggerhead turtle beach and a relaxing boat ride. The Traditional Carpet Weaving is one of Turkey’s most prized arts. With carpets ranging from £500 to £ 100,000 it was astonishing to see how they are hand weaved. It is a tradition from many generations which is starting to die out, the Turkish government are funding schools to keep this art alive. In Fethiye there was one of the largest markets I’ve ever seen consisting of 600 stalls.

My highlight of the holiday was paragliding over Ölü Deniz. The scenery from the sky is spectacular, picturesque and a totally breathtaking experience. Taking off from over 2000metres was not as scary as I anticipated the drive to the top of the mountain was more scarieer! It is something I would recommend to do as it is an experience that can not be described.

Lionheart Security is a leading provider of safety and conflict resolution services. As well as providing security management, Lionheart also partake in talks at schools to youths about knife crime.

I have been working on designing some cards which can be given out to people about stopping knife crime. They are going to be given out at the Luton International Carnival which takes place on 31st May 2010. The carnival is Britain’s biggest one day carnival with over 100,000 people expected to attend.

Combi Solutions

I am still working for Creoforma and learning plenty.  A client of ours Combi Solutions needed a website designing which I designed.

Combi Solutions are specialists in Boiler Breakdowns, plumbing and central heating. The website was to be clean and simple showing the services provided by Combi Solution.

This is the first website I have designed and was a bit apprehensive about it. However with help from Qas (creative director) I managed to produce something the client was very happy with.

Sneak Preview

The magazine is making great progress. Above is the confirmed logo/name for the magazine!
We are currently in talks with a reputable editor for the magazine to go live. The team for Vision Magazine is starting to grow rapidly. I have been busy designing and finalising the magazine layouts. We have created a sample magazine for prospective advertisers, so they can get a look and feel for the magazine! Even though it’s not the real edition I was just as excited to see the sample!

Work…Sleep…Work…Sleep…Work…

It is coming up to a month for me working at Creoforma and the time has flown by (where to I’m not exactly sure!). I have been involved with many different projects and clients which have allowed me to gain good hands-on experience.

Recently, I was given an opportunity to attend a client’s briefing at a company called One Marylebone. One Marylebone is a glamorous and unique central London venue, which is used for the most exclusive private and corporate events.  One Marylebone have also got a sister venue called One Mayfair. Both venues are going to be coming under the name of One Event. It is a very open brief and I am looking forward to working on it!

Coming to a home near you. . .

The latest project I have been working on is a community magazine called Vision. It is a community lifestyle magazine for the people of Luton and is proposed to be delivered to 10,000+ houses. This project is my baby as I have been part of it from the beginning and even came up with name for it! It is still very much at the early stages but is progressing very quickly!

hmm/ ahh

The hmm/ahh Exhibition, an open studio showcasing work in progress from the graduating class of 2010 Design for Advertising students.

It was great to see my class mates (who i miss like crazy!) work and what they have been up to. It took me a while to get round to the work after catching up with everyone, but there was some really good projects in progress.

A lot of effort had been put into this open studio, if its a reflection of the final year exhibition then it’s going to be good one. Well done guys!

Straight to work!

Following my interview I managed to get an internship at Creoforma! It’s been the first week and i’ve been put straight into designing. There is some exciting projects coming in, which I get a lot of creative input into. It’s a really friendly and relaxed studio.

It is quite over whelming the difference in designing for uni projects to real clients, the turnover in design is ‘a lot’ faster! I was taken to a printers press and shown the different types of printing methods. It was really good to see the process and how it works. On completion of one the projects, we then delivered to the clients. All that on my first day!

Creoforma

Qaiser Malik is Creative Director of company Creoforma, a small creative design studio based in Luton. Creoforma are specialists in corporate identity, branding, printing and signage. Creoforma is latin for ‘To Create’

I met with Qaiser in his studio and showed him my portfolio. Whilst I showed him my work there was also a small type of launch going to take place. One of his clients Just Desserts, had asked Creoforma to do the design work. There was a spread of food with chocolate fountains. There was a photographer taking photos of the event which were going to be used for the website. It was good to see and have a chat with the people. An interview and chocolate fountains what more could I want!
